"Tie the yellow ribbon, waiting for your loved one"

In many western countries the yellow ribbon has various meanings. In this pic I just want to mention its most favoured meaning, which is associated with those, mostly ladies, waiting for the return of their loved ones who are being far away from them.

This is a story I was told by my past teacher which took me to the romance of the yellow ribbon. There were a teenage boy and girl who loved each other very much. One day there was a conflict between them, which was so serious that they stopped talking to each other and got separated. The girl did not want to talk to the boy. The boy wanted to apologize first, but he didn't know how to. Time passed and they both grown up, but their relationship wasn't healed yet. The boy, who was then a mature man, had to join the military. The young lady still didn't want to talk to him. Before setting off, he left her a letter. The lady did not read the letter until the man had gone far away. In the letter he confessed all his feelings, that he loved her so much and wanted to get along with her again, but was too embarrassed to apologize. Then he wrote that when she had forgiven him, she would tie a yellow ribbon at the oak tree in the common ground of their village, so he could see it first on his way home. Many years later, the man came back, astonished to see almost all the oak trees in the village tied with yellow ribbons. The lady then showed up, confessing all her feelings and that she had been waiting for him, for his words since the first conflict, that everyday waiting for him since he left, she tied a yellow ribbon to an oak tree. So then the oak wood was filled with yellow ribbons... (the rest of the story... is up to what you think ^^)

In this pic I just want to create my own Asian/Vietnamese version of the yellow ribbon story. The female character is a typical Vietnamese lady with long black hair wearing a stylized gold ao dai. Instead of having a wood as the background, here I painted a waterfall scenery. In addition, instead of having many yellow ribbons on many trees, I have the girl weave a long yellow cloth ribbon : She weaves it until the day her loved one is back.
